Why it’s free

Momentum was built on a simple idea: whether you can compete shouldn’t depend on your school, your background or what you can afford. So entry is free, and nobody expects you to have done a case competition before.

Any high school student in Greater Vancouver can enter. What we ask is that you come ready to think, work with your team and present.

How it started

From a 50-seat plan to UBC Sauder

Momentum was first planned as a 50-person competition at Windermere Secondary. By April 2026 it had moved to UBC Sauder and brought together more than 200 high school students from across Greater Vancouver, making it the largest event Open Minds Foundation runs.
